Meet The Pastor

A Word From Our Pastor

Pastor Jason Smith

Jason is passionate about seeing people discipled and walking in God’s unique plan for their life to bring Him glory. If you listen to Jason’s story, you will see a story of God’s amazing grace. After calling himself a Christian for many years without an authentic relationship with Christ, Jason was saved in 2002 while attending as a chaperon for students at a youth conference. In response to the Gospel message that was preached, Jason repented of HIs sin, surrendered his life to Christ as Lord ,and and his life has never been the same.

Out of an overflow of God’s amazing grace in his life, Pastor Jason desires to see every person made complete in Christ (Col 1:28-29), being transformed from the wreck left by the brokenness of this world to walking obediently in God’s plan for their life.

Jason served in Student Ministry for years and God has uniquely gifted him to be able to speak and connect with all ages through his humorous and bold preaching style. He has served as Senior Pastor of Cowee since July of 2016 and completed his Master Divinity Degree from Liberty University in Homiletics in 2022. Jason generally walks verse by verse through books or sections of the Bible, desiring to preach the full counsel of God’s Word.

The word exposition means to lift out of the text the meaning of the original author in their given context and transfer the divine truths across time to find what they mean for us today. We need to find out the true meaning of what the Bible teaches and learn how we’re to respond to it today. It is our hope and heart that this happens every time we gather together.

Jason’s undergraduate studies were in Business Administration at WCU, where he from graduated in 1997. It was in that same year that he married Sherry and they now have two children, Hope and Grant. Jason is passionate about family and equipping the next generation of marriages to thrive. He is a certified Prepare-Enrich Facilitator as well as SYMBIS Trained for pre-marriage counseling and marriage enrichment. Jason serves on the Pastoral Leadership Team for Heart For Families and has a great heart for the community and collaborative work with other churches to reach our community with the good news of the Gospel and encourage the body of Christ.

Pastor Jason enjoys fly-fishing, camping, and really just spending time with family in whatever way he can.
