Imagine one of the most diverse communities in America where 60-70% of the population is foreign-born, representing over 50 countries and 100+ distinct ethnic groups all compressed within 1.4 square miles. This is Clarkston, GA. Known as the “Ellis Island of the South,”  there are great needs, but there are also great opportunities for churches and individuals to invest in the residents of this unique community. 

This Clarkston Mission Experience is an immersive mission trip experience at the Send Relief Ministry Center in Clarkston, GA that allows you to engage in refugee ministry. The goal of this 6-day event is to give churches and individuals some practical training to learn more about refugee ministry while also providing plenty of opportunities for community outreach. 

What will you do: 

Teams will be participating in activities that include interacting with children during our summer camp – Camp Encounter, apartment outreach, evangelism training, refugee resettlement education, and free time to explore Clarkston and engage further in our diverse community. This trip will consist of 75% service and outreach with Camp Encounter / other ministry partners, and 25% training, experiencing, and equipping.

When:     
Departing July 24 (Sat); returning July 30 (Fri)

 

Cost:

$200 per person, based upon 3 persons in a room
$300 per person, based upon 2 persons in a room
$600 per person, based upon 1 person in a room

Cost includes:   

  • Lodging for 6 nights
  • Transportation to and from Clarkston, via church bus
  • Transportation while there
  • Travel insurance through NCBSC

Meals:  This cost covers all meals except breakfast and meals on travel days.

Requirements:

  • Must be an active participant of Cowee Baptist Church.
  • Participants must be 12 years old or older (required by NAMB with this project) 
  • Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. 
  • Must attend pre-trip meetings.
  • Participation in Cowee’s VBS is strongly encouraged.

Payment Dates:   

        April 18: $50 non-refundable deposit, per person

        May 23:  Half the total balance due, per person

        June 27:  Remaining balance due, per person
