David tried to cover up his sin by having Uriah killed in battle. By trying to hide his sin, David sinned again and made things worse.

Nathan told David the story of the rich man who had taken the lamb from the poor man. David realized he was like the rich man in the story because he took something that didn’t belong to him, and he also killed Uriah.
