Loving our Neighbors in Canton

Jason Smith   -

Ways to serve in Canton.

VOLUNTEER

  • Jim and Cindy Schick will be leading teams through Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief. The work will primarily be mucking out and debris removal of homes. They share that volunteers can sign up for a half day (arrive at 7:30am or 12:30pm), or all day to serve (arrive at 7:30am).
    TO VOLUNTEER PLEASE CALL:
    (828) 550-4916 or visit spvolunteer.org

If Anyone is able to come for multiple days, Samaritan’s Purse asks that they register online: spvolunteer.org
  • Gary Holland is working there as well through the Baptist on Mission Disaster Relief doing similar work. Gary shares that starting Monday will be mostly mucking and tearing out. If you are interested in working with this team, contact Gary Holland at 828-371-2301.
  • Mike Johnson will be coordinating feeding teams with Baptist On Mission the end of the week. Mike will arrive Wednesday night, and will start cooking Thursday breakfast. They will cook through Sunday, all three meals (I think lunches are sandwiches), and leave Sunday night. Mike shared that the number of people they are feeding has increased. He could use two or three people to serve with that team.  They will be meeting at and staying at First Baptist Church, Canton. Those serving would bring cots or an air mattress and would sleep there, prepare meals there, and shower there. If you are interested in helping Mike and working with that team, contact him at: midavjohnson@aol.com.

The most important thing we can all do right now and in the days to come is to pray for our neighbors and continue to look for opportunities to put “legs on those prayers.”

Take some time right now and lift this community to our Lord and may He bring peace in the midst of the storm.

By His Grace,
Pastor Jason
